Overview

This is the Technic model with black metallic paint, alloy wheels and carbon fibre effect roof and dash top. The frame and seat is in contrasting white and this one has the doors and optional windows. A CD radio is also fitted and two reversing sensors on the rear. Twizy's are rarely kitted out as much as this one!

The Renault Twizy is probably the most fun EV to drive, seats two adults and is a real eye catching vehicle and always generates a lot of interest. They make great promotional vehicles for companies and are often signwritten or wrapped. A business can reclaim the VAT in the battery rentals. It's incredibly cheap vehicle to run too, at only around 50-60p to charge and free road tax and no London congestion charges. No special charging equipment required as it charges on a normal 3-pin mains socket.

Licence to drive

In the UK, you need a full driving license to drive the Twizy as it is classed as a 'heavy' quadricycle. An automatic only licence is okay or even a motorcycle licence if it was obtained before 2001 as it gives you the entitlement to category B1 quadricycles.

In other parts of Europe there is a lower powered Twizy, called 'Twizy 45' which is limited to a 28mph top speed, which can be driven by teenagers without a license or those who have lost their licence due to driving convictions, but these Twizy 45 models are not available in the UK.
