First look around the new Tesla Model Y, Jan 2025
On 24th January, the new Model Y launched in the UK with only the LR AWD Launch Series available on the website, with deliveries expected in May. The Launch Series specifications vary in different markets but it's basically a LR AWD with all the options included. In the UK though our paint choice is only black or silver, with no white interior and only basic Autopilot. More details below.
On 21st February, the new RWD, LR RWD & LR AWD models became available to order with expected deliveries in June. The Performance model is not yet available.
Stealth grey is now the standard no-cost colour across the ranges. Pearl white and Solid black cost £1,300. Quicksilver and Ultra red costs £2,300. Midnight cherry red has gone.
The new RWD can only have the standard 19" Crossflow wheels. The LR RWD, LR AWD can have the 20" Helix 2.0 wheels for £2,100.
Enhanced Autopilot is £3,400 and Full Self-Driving Capability is £6,800.
The white interior remains at £1,100 option, as does the tow hitch is a £1,090 option and available on all models.
The LR AWD Launch Series remains, with deliveries expected in May. In the UK, these come with only the 20" Helix 2.0 wheels, a choice of Solid black or Quicksilver paint, black interior, a tow hitch fitted as standard and come with basic Autopilot - all for £60,990.

Tesla Model Y UK specs, February 2025
The RWD LFP battery is now 62.5kWh, up from 60kWh. The new model now does 28 miles more range (WLTP) and the 0-60 dash has reduced from 6.6 seconds to 5.6 seconds. The top speed on the new model is now 125 mph and lower than the previous 135 mph due to different tyres.
It's worth also noting that for the first time in the UK, like on the Model 3, the new RWD model now has standard audio. Previously on the original shape, all UK Model Ys had the same premium audio. This was not the case in some other markets and on the UK spec Model 3.
The new RWD model is still £44,990 which is the same price as the previous RWD model back in Nov 2023 when I ordered mine. So when you take the UK inflation into account, the new model is actually £1,090 cheaper!
The first batch of right hand drive Model Y's arrive in the UK on 25th March. These are just going to Tesla showrooms rather than to customers, with the first UK test drives starting 1st April. The first customer deliveries are still expected in the first week in May.
On 4th April 2025, the option for deep blue metallic paint joined the configurator for the first time on the new Model Y. It cost £1,300 extra.
On 2nd May 2025, the first UK customers received their Launch Series Model Y, which the majority seemed to be in Quicksilver.
On 16th May 20205, the first non-Launch Series models arrived in the UK and were delivered to customers.
On 11th July 2025, Metallic Diamond black paint became an option, replacing the solid black.
The paint options are now Stealth grey as the standard free colour. Pearl white multi-coat, Diamond black and Deep blue metallic are £1,300. Quicksilver and Ultra red are £2,600.
Vehicles manufactured in the Berlin factory saw a HV battery pack change. This is mentioned in the owners manual. On vehicles produced before July 2025, the liquid-cooled lithium ion (Li-ion) battery has a nominal voltage of 345V DC. This has been increased to 350V DC on vehicles manufactured from July. It's not clear what impact that has, if any.
On 29th August 2025, the new Performance model was released, with deliveries expected Oct-Nov 2025. However, for the first time, the new Model was also available to view at showrooms on the launch day. Tesla secretly delivered the new Performance model from the Berlin factory to almost all Tesla stores in Europe before they announced the launch.
Prices start at £61,990, so that's a £10,000 premium over the LR AWD model and the same prices as the Launch series model in January.
The new Performance model features:
New front & rear fascia with carbon rear spoiler
New 21" staggered wheels
Adaptive dampers & new drive modes
More range (360 miles WLTP) due to new high-density battery cells (82-84 kWh LG 5M battery) with increased charge capacity
Ventilated sport front seats with powered thigh cushion extenders
New 16" higher resolution screen (same as the new 6-seat Model Y L in China)
At the same time, the interior trim on the LR AWD model has been changed to match the RWD models, making the Performance model the only with the 'premium' interior.

Errors and omissions excepted. Tesla do not produce sales brochures and the information on their website is also brief with the minimal specifications listed. They also continuously make changes to the hardware and do not restrict such changes to model years or major refreshes like other manufacturers do. Also due to the over-the-air updates, existing vehicles continue to get new features and functions over time and therefore can end up being very different from when it was new. So keeping track of changes is a challenge. If you find any mistakes or omissions, please do email.
