Brake servicing

What is a brake lubrication service?

A brake lubrication service is a strip down of the brakes on all four wheels with the components inspected, cleaned, lubricated and reassembled. This is not part of a normal service you'd get at a main dealer.

This is required on electric vehicles because the brakes aren't used much, particularly if the EV has strong regenerative braking (motor braking). Brakes on an EV are more likely to rust and seize up over time, simply because of lack of use and lack of movement.

Cleaning and lubricating the brake components during a service, mitigates the issues and means the brake pads and discs should last many times longer than they would on an ICE vehicle. EVs with strong regen (i.e. one pedal driving) should see 125,000 miles or more out from the brake pads and the discs themselves could last the life of the vehicle....if they are maintained.

A normal service at a main dealer does not include this work and typically they would just visually inspect your pads and discs, often without even taking the wheels off!
